abstract (57) [Summary] [Structure] A catalyst in which iridium is supported on a carrier composed of at least one selected from metal carbides and metal nitrides, and used in excess of the stoichiometric amount of the oxidizing component to the reducing component. A catalyst for purifying nitrogen oxides in exhaust gas in the presence of oxygen. [Effect] It is effective for purifying NOx in the exhaust gas of a lean burn gasoline engine containing excess O 2 or a lean burn engine such as a diesel engine having an air-fuel ratio of A / F = 17 or more.
