abstract (57) [Summary] [Structure] Formula (IV) obtained by reacting a compound represented by formula (II) with a compound represented by formula (III) in a polar solvent (a). The sulfobetaine represented by the formula (I) is crystallized and separated from the reaction mixture obtained by reacting the compound represented by the formula (V) with the compound represented by the formula (V). [Chemical 1] [In the formula, M is an alkali metal, X, X'is a halogen atom, R 1 is an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, R 2 and R 3 are each 1 to 1 carbon atoms. An alkyl group of 3 or a hydroxyalkyl group, R 4 is an alkylene group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and Y is an alkylene group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms and m is 0 or 1. [Effect] Sulfobetaine that can be used as a bleach activator can be produced in high quality and in high yield, and in the form of fine crystals.
