abstract (57) [Summary] [Purpose] The banknotes stored in the banknote storage cassette are new bills with a thin thickness when used, or thick used ones. Also, there is a difference in the surrounding environment such as temperature and humidity. Even if there is, it is possible to always detect the near-full state at an appropriate position. [Structure] A storage number storage section 28 for storing the number of banknotes accumulated on a stage, an encoder value storage section 29 for storing the count value of an encoder corresponding to the storage number, and an accumulated number of banknotes based on both data of these storage sections. An accumulated sheet number calculation unit 30 for calculating the accumulated sheet number per count of the encoder from the time point until the time when the next predetermined sheet number is accumulated, and a latest calculated value storage unit 31 for storing the latest value here. Provided in the control unit 32, the control unit 32 calculates a new near-full determination count value by reflecting the calculated value of the number of stacked bills for each predetermined number of stacked bills, and this and the old near-full determination count. The near full state of the bill storage cassette is detected by comparing with the value.
