abstract (57) [Summary] [Objective] The present invention aims to provide a novel industrially useful enzyme, ie, styrene oxide reductase, and a method for producing this enzyme by a microorganism. [Structure] Conventionally, there has been no technology related to styrene oxide reductase. Therefore, the present inventors diligently studied a method suitable for producing styrene oxide reductase, It was found that a styrene-assimilating Corynebacterium bacterium produces a significant amount of styrene oxide reductase, and it was confirmed that the enzyme is a styrene oxide reductase having excellent properties. [Effect] By using styrene oxide reductase, it is possible to carry out simple quantification of a small amount of styrene oxide in waste water, production of β-phenethyl alcohol from styrene oxide, optical resolution of styrene oxide, and the like.
