abstract (57) [Summary] [Objective] To provide an antagonist of a dopamine receptor subtype in the brain having a selective affinity for the dopamine D 4 receptor subtype over other dopamine receptor subtypes. [Structure] A pyrrolo [2,3-b] pyridine derivative substituted at the 3-position with a substituted piperazinylmethyl moiety. Typical example: 3- (4- Phenylpiperazin-1-yl) methyl-1H-pyrrolo [2,3-b] Pyridine. [Effect] The compound of the present invention has less side effects than conventional traditional neuroleptic agents, and is useful for treating and / or preventing psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia.
