titleOfInvention Optically active 5,6-dihydro-2-pyrone derivative, method for producing the same, liquid crystal composition containing the derivative and liquid crystal display device
abstract (57) [Summary] (Correction) [Constitution] Optically active compound 5,6 represented by the general formula (I) A dihydro-2-pyrone derivative, a synthetic intermediate thereof, a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition containing the optically active compound, and a liquid crystal display device using the same. [In the formula, R 1 and R 2 represent a C 1-18 alkyl group; Z represents a single bond, —O—, —COO—, or —OCOO—; ring A Is 1,4-optionally substituted with 1 to 2 F atoms A phenylene group or a trans-1,4-cyclohexylene group, m = 0,1; n = 1,2 and C * represents an asymmetric carbon atom] [Effect] The compound of the general formula (I) is a matrix liquid crystal. A ferroelectric liquid crystal composition capable of inducing large spontaneous polarization and capable of high-speed response in a wide temperature range can be obtained by adding a small amount therein. Further, since it is very excellent in chemical stability against water, light, etc., it is useful as a material for a liquid crystal optical switching element for display.
