abstract (57) [Summary] [Objective] To provide a novel acid anhydride and a method for producing the same. According to the present invention, a novel compound (3-aryl -1-Methylpropyl) succinic anhydride was provided. This compound produces 1-aryl-1-butenyl-3-succinic anhydride, which is done by reacting 1-aryl-2-butenes with maleic anhydride, followed by hydrogenation. Can be easily manufactured by. Since the compound is liquid at room temperature and has good workability, it is suitable for use as an epoxy resin curing agent. Moreover, the cured epoxy resin has better thermal stability than the conventional acid anhydride cured ones. It also has excellent mechanical properties and excellent weather resistance. The compound of the present invention is also useful as a plasticizer raw material, a resin modifier, a lubricating oil additive, a rust preventive and the like.
