(57) [Summary] [Objective] The present invention is useful as a synthetic intermediate in the production of DL-threo-3-isopropylmalic acid. DL-threo-2- (3,4-diloweralkyloxy-α -Hydroxybenzyl) alkylisovalerate is intended to be provided. [Structure] When an alkyl isovalerate is reacted with 3,4-di-lower alkyloxybenzaldehyde in the presence of lithium diisopropylamide to cause aldol condensation, A process for producing an alkyl DL-threo-2- (3,4-di-lower-alkyloxy-α-hydroxybenzyl) isovalerate, which is characterized in that hexamethylphosphorus triamide coexists. |
