(57) Abstract: To provide a particularly effective method for forming a protective and dielectric coating on a substrate such as an electronic device. A coating comprising a silica precursor is applied to a substrate and the coated substrate is in an environment containing nitrous oxide at a temperature sufficient to convert the silica precursor into a silica-containing ceramic coating. The heating forms a silica-containing ceramic coating on the substrate at low temperature. |
