(57) [Abstract] [Purpose] Amorphous-to-amorphous conversion of covalently bonded materials without melting the materials or forming crystals in the materials as in the past to produce crystalline materials. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for storing data using a memory and an optical storage device. A method of storing data and a write-once type (WORM) memory device of the present invention comprises heating a covalently bonded amorphous solid having a first refractive index and a selected predetermined region of the amorphous solid. It is composed of an energy source (44) that changes the refractive index without melting or substantially crystallizing. According to the present invention, the problems of corrosion, humidity, and attack of microorganisms that cause deterioration of the storage medium (50) over time (for example, 100 years) are solved. |
