titleOfInvention | Liquid crystal panel and liquid crystal projection television using the same |
abstract | (57) [Summary] [Objective] To provide a liquid crystal panel and a liquid crystal projection television with high brightness display and high contrast. A projection 15 is formed on at least one of a pixel electrode 14 and a counter electrode 22 of a liquid crystal panel, and a polymer dispersed liquid crystal 24 is used as the liquid crystal. The liquid crystal in the polymer-dispersed liquid crystal 24 is aligned in a predetermined direction in advance. When the liquid crystal is in a scattering state, the refractive index n t of the protrusion 15 and the refractive index of the liquid crystal layer are different. Therefore, the light incident on the liquid crystal panel is scattered and diffracted. When the liquid crystal is in a transmissive state, the ordinary refractive index n o of the liquid crystal having a positive dielectric anisotropy becomes equal to n t and n p, and there is no difference in the refractive index between the protrusion 15 and the liquid crystal layer. The light goes straight on. [Effect] The contrast is improved by the scattering effect and the diffraction effect, and high brightness display can be performed. |
