(57) [Abstract] [Purpose] An electroless nickel coating that has excellent adhesion to the resin surface and exhibits improved resistance to cracking and increased surface resistance under harsh temperature and humidity conditions. The increase in surface resistance of electroless nickel coatings on polycarbonate-containing substrates is prevented by the use of two electroless nickel solutions. The first solution, which contains phosphorus, deposits a metal layer having a phosphorus content of 5% by weight or less and is used to deposit a layer having a thickness of at least about 0.5 micron. The second liquid is at least 5% by weight, Preference is given to depositing a layer with a phosphorus content of at least 6% by weight. Another metal layer may be interposed between the two nickel layers. |
