abstract (57) [Summary] [Objective] Carbonic acid diesters can be obtained from alcohols, carbon monoxide and oxygen by a gas phase method with low corrosiveness while maintaining high catalytic activity for a long period of time with high selectivity. [Structure] A copper compound containing one halogen atom per copper atom, for example, a catalyst component such as cuprous chloride is added to have an average pore diameter of 3 An alcohol such as methanol, carbon monoxide and oxygen are reacted in a gas phase using a solid catalyst supported on a carrier such as activated carbon having a thickness of 0 angstrom or more. The alcohol content in the gas supplied to the reaction system is about 1 to 20% by volume, and the carbon monoxide content is about 70 to 95% by volume. Side reactions and the like due to water by-produced in the reaction are significantly suppressed.
