abstract (57) [Summary] [Structure] General Formula (I) (R 1: C1-18 alkyl, X: single bond, -O-, m: 0, 1, ring A: phenylene, cyclohexylene, R 2 : a compound represented by C1-10 alkyl), a process for producing the same, an intermediate, and a particularly ferroelectric liquid crystal composition containing the compound. [Effect] This compound has good compatibility with the SC host liquid crystal, can induce sufficient spontaneous polarization with a small amount of addition, and can obtain a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition capable of high-speed response in a wide temperature range. The composition obtained has good orientation and excellent chemical stability to water, light, etc., and is therefore useful as a material for a liquid crystal optical switching element for display.
