abstract | (57) [Summary] [Object] To provide a novel visible light emitting fine powder excellent in light emitting characteristics and stability by synthesizing a visible light emitting fine particle powder containing Ge as a main component which is a group IV semiconductor of the periodic table of elements. A visible light emitting fine powder comprising fine particles containing Ge as a main component, wherein the particle diameter of the fine particles is in the range of 1 to 10 nm, and which emits visible light when irradiated with light having a short wavelength. And a visible light emitting fine powder in which a Ge oxide layer or an oxide layer containing Si or Al is formed on the surface of a fine particle powder containing Ge as a main component.
