A method for producing a characteristic light control material, and a light control element characterized in that at least one of the substrates is constituted by sandwiching a light control material prepared by the method between a pair of substrates having electrodes on a transparent inner surface. According to the present invention, driving at a low voltage can be performed immediately after manufacturing, and a difference in transmittance between when an electric field is applied and when no electric field is applied, It is possible to obtain a light control material and a light control element which are excellent in voltage sensitivity and repeated response and which are useful for display devices, light control windows and the like.
