titleOfInvention Plutonium dioxide dissolution method
abstract (57) [Summary] [Objective] A method of dissolving plutonium dioxide by OH radicals generated by radiolysis of water, which is suitable for the treatment of dissolved fine substances and plutonium-based waste. [Structure] In a reaction furnace 1, a solvated electron, OH to radicals generated by a similar method, and an appropriately added reagent capable of trapping a redox mediator such as silver, were charged from a hopper 5. The solid product containing PuO 2 is brought into contact with the nitric acid aqueous solution 3 irradiated with radiation or charged particles, and free OH radicals are generated by the radiolysis of the solution. Irradiation is performed by alpha or beta emitters present in solution or by an external radiation source such as an illuminator or an electron accelerator.
