titleOfInvention | Metal halide lamp |
abstract | (57) [Abstract] [Purpose] To provide a metal halide lamp capable of increasing the surface area for heat dissipation without increasing the length or width of the collapsed sealing portion. A metal halide lamp in which mercury, a metal halide, and a rare gas are sealed in an arc tube 10 having crushed seals 14a and 14b at both ends and a metal foil conductor 12 sealed in each of the crushed seals. The cross-sectional shape of the collapsible sealing portion of the arc tube is formed in a substantially H shape. The widthwise end of the crushed seal portion acts as a heat radiating fin, increasing the surface area and improving the heat radiating action. Therefore, the temperature rise of the crushed seal portion is suppressed, and the metal member is not oxidized. Moreover, since it is not necessary to increase the length and width of the crushed sealing portion, the lamp can be made compact. |
