Crystalline copper-containing aluminosilicate of the pentasil type has an MFI structure, SiO 2 / Al 2 O 3 (molar ratio) is 10 or more. The exhaust gas is purified by using this catalyst in an oxidizing atmosphere at a reaction temperature of 200 to 800 ° C and a THC concentration (methane conversion concentration) / NO x. It is carried out in the presence of a hydrocarbon having a concentration of 0.5 to 200.
