Provided is a method for producing a polyester / polystyrene copolymer. [Structure] A styrene-based polymer (A) having an amino group at the terminal, an aromatic dihydroxy compound (B) and an aromatic dicarboxylic acid dihalide (C) are added to (A) / [(B) + (C)] is 20/80 to 80/20 (weight ratio), and is a method for producing a wholly aromatic polyester / polystyrene copolymer. [Effect] Compared with the conventional polymerization method, the content of the non-copolymerized styrene-based polymer is low, and the birefringence is low, and it can be used as a good optical instrument material.
