titleOfInvention Phenol purification method
abstract (57) [Summary] (Revised) [Objective] To provide a method for purifying phenol, particularly an improved method for purifying phenol by water extraction. A liquid phenol composition comprising phenol and an organic impurity in an amount of more than about 95% by weight on a dry weight basis is introduced into a distillation column, and fresh water is introduced into the distillation column. In a method for purifying phenol, which comprises reducing seed impurities, at least a portion of the fresh water is added to a distillation column at or near the bottom of a water extraction zone, whereby such water is added to the phenol composition. An improved method of removing said organic impurities by countercurrent contact with an object.
