abstract | (57) [Summary] [Object] To provide a magnetic recording medium having excellent durability, wear resistance, magnetic properties, and surface smoothness of a magnetic layer and an excellent cleaning effect of a magnetic head. In a magnetic recording medium comprising a magnetic layer containing magnetic fine powder and a binder on a non-magnetic support, the magnetic layer contains Ge, P, Sn, Nb, Ta, Mo and W elements. At least one oxide selected is alumina 100 A magnetic recording medium, characterized in that it contains about 0.1 to about 10 parts by weight of alumina having an average particle diameter of 1 μm or less. |
