abstract | (57) [Summary] [Object] To provide a biaxially oriented polyester film for a magnetic recording medium, which has improved surface properties, slipperiness, and abrasion resistance. [Structure] (A) The three-dimensional roughness distribution curve of the projections on the film surface is within a specific range, and (B) the running friction coefficient increases (Δ μk) is less than 0.15, and (C) the formation of the protrusions has a particle size ratio of 1.5 to 10 and an average particle size of 0.4 to 0.005 to 1% by weight of spindle-shaped calcium carbonate particles having a particle size distribution ratio (D 20 / D 80 ) of 1.4 or less, and having an average particle size of 0.1 μm or more smaller than the particles. 0.
