abstract (57) [Summary] [Purpose] c, even for tools with complex and minute shapes An object of the present invention is to provide a method of manufacturing a hard thin film coated member capable of forming a thin film mainly composed of BN or diamond with good adhesion, thereby providing a cutting tool having excellent wear resistance. [Structure] When a hard material thin film of cBN or diamond is formed on a surface of a metal or ceramic substrate by a gas phase reaction, C is previously formed on the surface of the substrate. After forming a coating layer containing at least one element of u, Ag, and Au, a hard material thin film is formed. After forming the hard material thin film, heating is performed at a temperature higher than the melting point of the coating layer.
