abstract (57) [Summary] [Purpose] To provide a musical tone generating apparatus which automatically sets the changing speed of the characteristic of musical tone in accordance with the playing tempo. [Structure] Based on a tempo clock, a change speed of control information for controlling a predetermined characteristic of a musical sound is obtained, and a change width corresponding to the change speed is set so that the control information changes at the obtained change speed. The changed control information is generated at predetermined time intervals, and the predetermined characteristic is controlled based on the generated control information.
