(57) [Summary] [Purpose] From alcohol or thiol and carboxylic acid, Provided is a method for efficiently producing a carboxylic acid ester or a carboxylic acid thioester under mild conditions. When an alcohol or thiol or a silyl derivative thereof is reacted with an equivalent or small excess of a carboxylic acid or a carboxylic acid silyl ester to produce a carboxylic acid ester or a carboxylic acid thioester, the compound represented by the general formula (3) (R 6 CO) 2 O (3) (wherein R 6 represents an aryl group which may have a substituent) and a catalytic amount of a cationic catalyst are allowed to coexist.
