abstract (57) [Abstract] [Purpose] To obtain a solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell with excellent reliability and without damage to the solid polymer electrolyte membrane. [Structure] Solid polymer electrolyte membrane 1 is provided with electrodes 2 and 3 whose outer dimensions are smaller than those of said solid polymer electrolyte membrane so as to face each other with said membrane interposed therebetween, and solid polymer electrolyte membrane 1 The outer edges of the electrodes 2 and 3 and the peripheral edges of the electrodes are covered with reinforcing membranes 7 and 8 to form a single cell, which is a gas seal provided on the outer edge of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane. It is sandwiched and sealed by the reaction gas supply plate 4 via the section.
