Method for producing water-soluble polymer |
abstract |
(57) Summary [Objective] The present invention provides a method for producing a water-soluble polymer having a controlled molecular weight in an aqueous polymerization of a vinyl monomer, using a copper ion and a cobalt ion. In an aqueous polymerization initiated with a peroxide, preferably a partially neutralized monomer is added to the monomer in a catalytic amount, generally from about 1 to about 300 ppm copper ion or cobalt. Ions are added to control the molecular weight of the resulting polymer. |
