abstract | (57) [Summary] (Modified) [Objective] To provide an efficient method for producing an alkyl t-alkyl ether. An etherification reaction effluent is passed as a first feed to a first separator, a first stream comprising ether products and a second stream comprising unreacted alcohol, tertiary olefins and other non-reactive compounds. The second stream is passed through a reaction zone containing an acidic ion exchange resin to react with an alcohol and a tertiary olefin to form a second ether product; a portion of the second reactor effluent stream. As a second feed to a first separator; and a remainder of the second reactor effluent stream to a second separator, a third stream comprising a second ether product and unreacted alcohol, a third olefin. And a process for etherification in which a primary or secondary alcohol and a tertiary olefin are separated by separation into a fourth stream composed of other non-reactive compounds. |
