titleOfInvention Terphenyl compound and chiral smectic liquid crystal composition using the same
abstract (57) [Summary] [Structure] General formula [1] (Wherein R 1 * and R 2 * represent an optically active group having 4 to 20 carbon atoms, and n represents an integer of 0 to 2). [Effect] The optically active compound of the present invention and the chiral smectic liquid crystal composition using the same have extremely large spontaneous polarization, and have a response speed as large as several hundred times that of the conventional TN type display method. Thus, it is possible to obtain a high-quality operation display and a high-speed response optical switch or optical shutter.
