abstract (57) [Abstract] [Purpose] χ (2) Optical frequency conversion device having a waveguide layer made of active ferroelectric liquid crystal. In an optical element for effectively generating short-wave laser light by frequency conversion by a waveguide layer, the waveguide layer has a periodic structure that enables quasi-phase matching of a guided laser beam. Ferroelectric layer χ (2) Made of active monomer or polymer liquid crystal material, and the periodic length of the three-dimensional structure is 2 which is the coherence length lc = π / Δβ of the material. Equivalent to [wherein Δβ = βo (2ω) −2βo (ω), where ω = fundamental angular frequency, 0 = zero-order mode, β = mode propagation constant] Optical element.
