titleOfInvention Methods to increase the efficiency of liquid phase oxidation reactions
abstract (57) [Summary] (Modified) [Objective] To provide a method for increasing the efficiency of an oxidation reaction for oxidizing an alkylaromatic in a liquid phase in the presence of a heavy metal oxidation catalyst and an oxygen-containing gas source. A mixture of a suitable reaction solvent, an oxidation catalyst composed of heavy metal components, an alkylaromatic hydrocarbon and an oxygen-containing gas is introduced into a suitable oxidation reactor; the reaction mixture is mixed; and the reaction mixture is mixed. Maintaining at a temperature and for a time sufficient to convert at least a portion of said alkylaromatic hydrocarbons to carboxylic acids; where mixing is provided with a device providing variable rotation speeds and rotating agitator elements located in the reaction mixture. And maintaining the device providing the variable rotational speed at a substantially constant power for at least a substantial portion of the addition of the oxygen-containing gas under an oxidation reaction condition in a liquid phase. A method of oxidizing a hydrocarbon to a corresponding aromatic carboxylic acid.
