(57) [Summary] [Structure] In a method for producing an oligomer, wherein a linear olefin having 10 to 24 carbon atoms is contacted with a catalyst at high temperature, the catalyst is a non-halogenated titanium compound or a non-halogenated zirconium compound. A cation-exchangeable layered clay treated with. The long-chain olefins can be oligomerized with less dangerous catalysts, with excellent conversion and high selectivity to trimers and higher oligomers. The long-chain olefin oligomer synthesized in the present invention is useful as a base oil for synthetic lubricants. |
