(57) [Summary] [Purpose] Obtain a sufficiently large clamping force. A surgical clip has first and second legs, The legs are joined at their adjacent ends by resilient articulating means and have latching means at their separate ends. Each leg has an outer surface and an inner clamp surface. The outer surface of each leg is shaped to be received by the jaws of a clip binder. A particular improvement in clip design concerns the design of the inner clamp surface of each leg of the clip. The clamp inner surface of the first leg has a laterally convex radius of curvature in at least a portion of the width of the first leg, and the clamp inner surface of the second leg in at least a portion of the width of the second leg. It has a concave radius of curvature in the lateral direction. The radius of curvature of the inner clamp surface of the first leg is smaller than the radius of curvature of the inner clamp surface of the second leg, and they complement each other. |
