abstract | (57) [Summary] (Modified) [Objective] To provide a method for stabilizing polyethylene and polypropylene fibers dyed with phthalocyanine and azo pigments. A method of imparting improved tarnish resistance to a product made from a polyolefin monofilament or thin film, comprising: (i) an effective amount sufficient to color the product in the melt from which the film or fiber is formed. 2 phr or less of a blue or green phthalocyanine pigment, or a red azo or disazo pigment is mixed with a main stabilizer combination to form a colored product for outdoor use, and (ii) the melt is extruded to a diameter of 50 μm. Forming a monofilament of less than 50 μm or a thin film of less than 50 μm in thickness, wherein the main stabilizer combination is (a) a piperidyl-based (PDYL) hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) containing at least two polysubstituted piperidyl groups. And (b) a 3,5-disubstituted-4-hydroxybenzoate of general formula I, eg formula II. |
