abstract (57) [Summary] [Objective] Inside an arc tube equipped with electrodes, an appropriate amount of iron and an appropriate amount of tin, magnesium, bismuth, and thallium together with an amount of mercury and a noble gas sufficient to maintain an arc discharge. In a metal vapor discharge lamp in which at least one of cadmium, manganese and manganese, and halogen are enclosed, iron is prevented from adhering to the inner wall of the arc tube and a large ultraviolet radiation intensity can be maintained for a long time. [Structure] The enclosed halogen contains at least bromine, and the content of bromine is set to 0.26% or more by weight ratio with respect to the total amount of halogen.
