abstract | (57) [Summary] [Objective] To provide a manufacturing process for rolls, particularly a polishing roll for a paper machine, which is free from the problems and drawbacks of the manufacturing process in the prior art. It provides rolls that have properties that are superior to those of the rolls of the art and that can be used freely, especially at high temperatures. [Structure] In this method, the outer jacket portion (11) of the roll (10) is cast or cast and heat treated, and in the next step, the roll outer jacket portion (11) is machined. In this method, the cast iron roll mantle part (11) is hardened and tempered to form a martensite structure in the surface layer (15) of the roll mantle part (11). The roll mantle (11) is subjected to finish machining in one known manner. The invention also relates to a roll, in particular a roll provided with a cast iron mantle (11), for a glazing roll for a paper machine. The surface layer (15) of the roll mantle part (11) is hardened and tempered so that the surface layer (15) of the roll mantle part (11) has a tempered martensite structure. |
