titleOfInvention Method for reducing emissions from industrial sterilizers
abstract (57) Abstract: A method is provided for treating a gas stream containing a sterilant gas and a diluent gas, such as an exhaust stream from a sterilizer. [Structure] This method includes a sterilizing agent removing step and a diluent removing step. The sterilant removal step may be absorption, catalytic oxidation, or other chemical reaction. The diluent removal step comprises a membrane separation step and may optionally include a condensation step. Permeation-selective membranes used in membrane separation processes are typically selective for diluents over other gases in the gas stream. This method removes essentially all of the sterilant present in the feed stream and typically removes more than 90% of the diluent. [Effect] This method is particularly suitable for ethylene oxide / CFC. It is effective in treating a mixture of -12.
