titleOfInvention Multiple optical fiber event sensor and method of manufacture
abstract (57) SUMMARY A multi-optical fiber event sensor device includes a semi-permeable generally cylindrical shaft, a module of one or more optical fiber gas sensors within the shaft, and a distal end of the shaft. Including a fiber optic pH sensor module extending therethrough, the sensor modules being arranged in an axially stacked relationship. The shaft contains a potting matrix that fixes the position of the optical fibers axially, and 1 or 2 It includes a gas permeable portion surrounding the gas sensor module and a hydrophilic portion covering at least a portion of the pH sensor module. A hemodynamically shaped rounded end is also provided at the end of the shaft. This device provides the multiplicity of individual sensors incorporated into a single axis, which minimizes cross-interference and thrombus formation when used as multiple sensors in a vessel.
