titleOfInvention | Production of 5-hydroxyquinoline |
abstract | PURPOSE: To easily obtain the subject compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for pharmaceuticals at a low cost by treating 5-aminoquinoline with sodium bisulfite and an alkaline aqueous solution. n CONSTITUTION: The objective hydroxyquinoline can be produced by dissolving 5-aminoquinoline in an aqueous solution of sodium bisulfite, refluxing the mixed solution for 2-48hr under normal pressure until the raw material is almost consumed, adding an alkaline aqueous solution (e.g. aqueous solution of NaOH) and refluxing under heating for 2-3hr. The amounts of the sodium bisulfite and the alkaline aqueous solution are preferably 5-10 pts. and 10-20 pts. per 1 pt. of the 5-aminoquinoline, respectively. The 5-hydroxyquinoline is useful as a raw material for pharmaceuticals such as a circulatory drug called as β-blocker or a carcinostatic agent. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio |
