titleOfInvention Preparation of polycarbonate
abstract PURPOSE: To prepare a transparent and colorless high-molecular polycarbonate contg. no chlorine ion without using phosgene, a toxic compd., by allowing a dihydroxyl compd. and a bisaryl carbonate to undergo melt polycondensation in the presence of a specific catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: A dihydroxyl compd. and a bisaryl carbonate (e.g. bisphenyl carbonate) are allowed to undergo melt polycondensation in the presence of a catalyst selected from salts of an electron-donating amine compd. (e.g. N,N- dimethyl-4-aminopyridine) with a dihydroxyl compd. [e.g. a compd. of formula I, II, III, or IV (wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , and R 4 are each H, 1-8C alkyl, or phenyl; X is halogen; (n)is 0-4; and (m) is 1-4)] to give a transparent and colorless high- molecular polycarbonate contg. no chlorine ion without using phosgene, a toxic compd. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
