titleOfInvention Medicinal composition
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a medicinal composition consisting of a combination of a ranitidine compound (histamine H 2 antagonistic agent), alginic acid compound (therapeutic agent for gastrointestinal disorders) and (bi)carbonate (carbon dioxide source), and improved in the therapeutic effect on gastrointestinal disorders. n CONSTITUTION: This medicinal composition is obtained by formulating (A) ranitidine or its physiologically permissible salt, esp. ranitidine hydrochloride, (B) alginic acid or its physiologically permissible salt, esp. alginic acid, sodium or magnesium salt thereof, and (C) a carbonate or bicarbonate, esp. NaHCO 3 , KHCO 3 , MgCO 3 or CaCO 3 , as the essential ingredients. The respective ingredients play the following roles: the ingredient A forms suspended matter on the upper part of gastric contents so as to protect the esophageal mucosa from the backflow of the gastric contents, the ingredient B reduces the volume and acidity of gastric juice (this is effective, in combination with the action of the ingredient A, for symptom mitigation and cure promotion), and the ingredient C controls the density of the suspended matter and renders its mechanical strength optimum. The above three effects interact with one another, thus improving the therapeutic effect of this medicinal composition on gastrointestinal disorders. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO
