abstract | PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain the subject compound which is an intermediate for herbicides in good yield by reacting a compound having formyl group at the o-position and phenoxy group at the m-position with a specific optically active substance in the presence of an acid acceptor. n CONSTITUTION: A compound [e.g. 2-hydroxy-4(2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenoxy) benzaldehyde] expressed by formula I (X and Y are H, halogen, CF 3 or 1-5C alkyl) is reacted with an optical isomer [e.g. methanesulfonate of (S)(-)-methyl lactate] of a compound expressed by formula II (A is arylsulfonyl or alkylsulfonyl; R 1 is alkyl or phenyl; R 2 is hydroxyl, alkyl, phenyl, alkoxy, etc.) in the presence of an acid acceptor to afford an optically active phenoxycarboxylic acid derivative [e.g. R-optical isomer of 2-(1- methoxycarbonylethoxy)-4-(2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylph--enoxy)benzaldehyde] expressed by formula II. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio |
