abstract | PURPOSE: To prepare the title polymer which facilitates the production of a liq. crystal element having a large area and has improved response characteristics by incorporating two specific repeating units into the copolymer. n CONSTITUTION: A polysiloxane of formula I (wherein R' and R" are each H, phenyl, or 3C or lower alkyl; and x+y is the degree of polymn.) and a vinyl terminated side chain component in an amt. almost equivalent to the polysiloxane are subjected to hydrosilylation addition in the manner of grafting to give the title polymer which has repeating units of formula II and repeating units of formula III (wherein R is alkyl or phenyl; V is a group of formula IV or V, or a structure comprising a group of formula IV or V of which at least one H is substd. by alkyl, halogen, CN, NH 2 , or carbonyl; m is 0-30; W is a single bond, -O-, -OCO-, -COO-, -CONR 1 -, -CO-, or -NR 1 -; R 1 is H or alkyl; X is a mesogen comprising a structure wherein at least two rings selected from the group consisting of optionally substd. homoarom., heteroarom., and alicyclic rings are linked by -O-, -COO-, -N=N-, etc.; Y is -COOCH 2 -, -OCH 2 -, or -OCO-; * is an asymmetric carbon atom; Z is -R 2 or -COR 2 ; and R 2 is H or an optionally substd. alkyl). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio |
