titleOfInvention Olefin block copolymer and production thereof
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title copolymer wherein both the mol.wt. and content of an acrylic ester polymer part are high by polymerizing two olefins in two steps, one in one step, in the presence of a catalyst comprising a rare earth metal complex contg. a specific ligand. n CONSTITUTION: A catalyst comprising three catalyst constituents, i.e., an optionally substd. cyclopentadienyl group, a group selected from the group consisting of H, alkyl, and aryl, and a trivalent rare earth metallic atom selected from the group consisting of metals of lanthanoids (atoms having atomic numbers of from 57 to 71 in the periocic table) and yttrium, are prepd. in advance. In the presence of the catalyst, an olefin of formula I (wherein R 1 is H or 1-12C alkyl) (e.g. ethylene) is polymerized (the first polymn. step) and then an olefin of formula II (wherein R 2 is H or 1-6C alkyl; and R 3 is a 1-18C hydrocarbon group) (e.g. methyl methacrylate) is polymerized (the second polymn. step), giving the title copolymer wherein a segment of formula III (wherein m is 70 or higher) having a Q value of 3.5 or lower is combined with a segment of formula IV (wherein n is 50 or higher) having a Q value of 4 or lower in a content of 5wt.% or higher. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
