abstract | PURPOSE: To purify the blood in a blood vessel by injecting a compound produced by chemical synthesis into the blood, making a target substance adsorb on the compound, and excreting the resulting compound. n CONSTITUTION: A compound produced by chemical synthesis is injected into a blood vessel of a human body to make a target substance adsorb on the compound, and the adsorbed compound is excreted by utilizing the evacuating action of the human body. For example, since granules made from polyacrylonitrile as a starting material have strong electric characteristic, they can adsorb compounds such as ammonia and bilirubin. To reduce the dissolved ammonia concentration in the blood which brings on a hepatic comatose state taking place at the time of a hepatic functional disorder, granules of 80 Å-300 Åcapable of passing the cell wall are prepared by using polyacrylonitrile as the staring material, and the granules are mixed with a solution such as physiological saline solution and directly injected into the blood vessel of the human body by an injector. Ammonia in the blood is adsorbed with the granules and excreted by utilizing the evacuating action of the human body, whereby the ammonia concentration in the blood is reduced. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio |
