titleOfInvention | Ferroelectric liquid crystal composition |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition whose response has a very small temperature dependence and which is advantageous in the application to liquid crystal displays by mixing a phenylpyrimidine derivative and an optically active lactone derivative. n CONSTITUTION: At least one phenylpyrimidine derivative of formula I (wherein R 1 and R 2 are each a 1 - 20 C straight chain or branched alkyl) is mixed with at least one optically active lactone derivative of formula II (wherein R 3 is a 1 - 20 C straight chain or branched alkyl, alkoxy, alkanoyloxy, alkoxycarbonyl, alkoxyalkyl, alkoxyalkanoyloxy or alkoxyalkoxy; R 4 is a 1 - 20 C straight chain or branched alkyl; formula III represents a group of formula IV, V, VI, VII or VIII; and C* and C** are each an asymmetric carbon atom of R or S configuration) to obtain a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition. The composition has a very small temperature dependence in its response and is advantageous in the application to liquid crystal displays, as compared with conventional liquid crystal materials. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio |
