titleOfInvention | Electroviscous fluid |
abstract | PURPOSE:To obtain the subject new fluid, having a wide operating temperature range and capable of providing clutches, shock absorbers, engine mounts, vibrators, electricity-machine interfaces, etc., by dispersing chitin in an electrical insulating liquid. CONSTITUTION:The objective fluid is obtained by dispersing (A) chitin which is polysaccharides, having many linked N-acetylglucosamines and normally obtained from shells of crustaceans such as crab or lobster in (B) an electrical insulating and hydrophobic liquid such as silicone oil or fluorine oil. In addition, a liquid with a high dielectric constant such as water or glycerol or a solid with a high dielectric constant such as succinonitrile or N-methylacetamide in an amount of, e.g. <=5% as an adsorbent can be adsorbed on the chitin or a dispersion stabilizer such as a surfactant can be added thereto. |
