Oxide ceramic cutting insert and manufacture thereof |
abstract |
PURPOSE: To provide an oxide ceramic cutting insert having improved performance in the metal cutting work, in particular, toughness. CONSTITUTION: An oxide ceramic cutting insert of this invention includes the ceramic oxide matrix and 5-50 volume % of the evenly dispersed silicon carbide whisker and/or platelet. The next peak from the hexagonal system modification of the silicon carbide in an X-ray analysis figure from a cutting face in the case of using CuKαradiation, namely, a ratio of the strength of a peak 1010} to the strength of a peak 111} from the cubic system modification is larger than 0.7. |
