titleOfInvention Medicated chewing gum comprising acetylsalicylic acid
abstract PURPOSE: To prepare a pharmaceutical composition of acetylsalicylic acid having rapid absorption, good permissiveness in a mouth or the stomach, high bioavailability and high storage stability and further antipyretic, antiinflammatory, analgesic and blood platelet aggregation inhibiting actions. n CONSTITUTION: This stable medicated chewing gum composition permitted by a mucous membrane comprises acetylsalicylic acid(ASA) as a first component, a basic substance suitable for producing a salt, preferably calcium carbonate as a second component in respective spatially separated forms in a gum base and is capable of eluting both the components from the chewing gum composition during the chewing and producing the readily soluble salt. The composition is capable of manifesting rapid absorption due to the presence of the ASA in a dissolved state in a mouth, good permissiveness for mucous membranes with buffering actions of the salt produced during the chewing, high bioavailability due to low metabolism at the time of intrabuccal absorption and high storage stability due to the presence of the ASA as a free acid during the storage. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO
